The Great ShakeOut - Earthquake Drill
The Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill
This year's International ShakeOut Day is Thursday, October 17, at 10:17 am. Here at the CEC, we are planning the following to make sure our community is prepared for the next quake:
Oak Grove and Caltech Sites: We will practice Drop & Cover (our phrase for young children is "rabbits in the hole") and then proceed to our designated evacuation locations. Please arrive with your child before 10:10 am or after 10:35 am, as teachers will not be able to accept newly arriving children during the evacuation drill.
In addition, we will be running a test of our Emergency Communications System. This means all parents and staff will be receiving a TEST call, email, and text message (*depending on your opt-in selections). We want to inform you now to try and eliminate any confusion or worry when the messages go out. If you do not receive a TEST message or call on Thursday morning, please contact the Oak Grove office at (818) 354-3418.

Zoom Meeting with DEIJB Consultant Monique Marshall
We are offering a second opportunity to spend time with Monique through an interactive Zoom meeting on Tuesday, April 30 at 4:00 pm: Keeping up with our Kids: Raising an Aware, Anti-biased Generation, Starting with Ourselves.
Often, when kids see difference, adults see difficulty. Our children are typically way ahead of us, as we scramble to catch up with the questions they have and the information they acquire about the diversity of people and the world around them! Monique Marshall, our facilitator for this interactive Zoom workshop, is currently working with our community in collaboration with Anthony Witte to examine, think, talk about, and continue to develop best practice around diversity and equity at CEC.
This workshop, open to all CEC parenting adults will offer an introduction to developmentally appropriate ways to affirm identity, develop accurate language for differences, help our children understand unfairness and learn to advocate for justice for all. Don’t miss this opportunity to reflect, discuss, and connect with other parents and caregivers who want to build muscles around supporting healthy identity development for all of our children.
